ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1. Extended Help for PM Diskcopy ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
PM Diskcopy is a 32-bit utility to copy disks under OS/2 version 2.0 or higher.
You can use this program to copy disks multiple, compare disks or store disks
as image files (somtimes called container files) on your harddisk.
Working with PM Diskcopy
First put your source disk into the drive and select the source and target
drive with the pushbuttons (a red arrow shows the selected drives). Remember
that you can also create image files, which are stored on the harddisk. Now
select your options:
o Only used tracks, which means that only tracks that contain data will be read
or written.
o Verify target disk, which means that written data will be verified (writting
of the disk will be slower).
o Format target disk, which means that the target disk will be formatted during
writting of the disk.
o Ignore read errors, which means that there will be no question if an read
error occures.
Note: These Optionen can be changed at every time and for every copy, but not
during reading or writing. For comfort, the last option can be changed
during reading of the disk.
Now press the 'read' pushbutton, to read the contents of a disk into memory.
You will see an 'Γûá' for every side and track of the disk in the progress frame,
and a discription of the source disk in the frame on the right side. During
reading of the tracks, you will see an 'R' in the progress frame for every
track that was written corectly ('╨╕' means that there was an read error on this
track).
If you don't ignore errors during the reading or if you cancel the reading, you
are not able to write or compare the disk and the pushbuttons 'Write' and
'Comp.' will be disabled.
Unused Tracks will be shown as '.', if the option 'used tracks only' was
selected .
When the reading of the source disk has completed you can create the target
disk by pressing the 'write' pushbutton or compare a disk by pressing the
'comp.' pushbutton. You will see an 'W' for every side and track of the disk in
the progress frame during the writting of the target disk. If the options for
verifying or formatting was selected, you will also see an 'V' or an 'F' for
every track.
When comparing a disk you will see an 'O' if a track is equal or an 'ΓûÆ' if the
compared tracks are not equal.
Note: Copying of disk with different formats may cause problems. If for
example you want to copy a 1,2MB 5╨╝" disk from drive B: to a 1,44MB 3╨╗"
disk in drive A: , you have to turn on the "format target disk" option.
So every time you want to copy disks with different format you have to
format the target disk.
Note that the OS/2 2.0 device drivers does not support every
combination !
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. Select A: as source drive ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Pressing these pushbutton selects A: as the source drive (you will see an arrow
on the right side of the pushbutton !).
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3. Select B: as source drive ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4. Select an image file as source drive ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Pressing these pushbutton selects an image file as the source drive (you will
see an arrow on the right side of the pushbutton !).
After pressing the 'read' pushbutton you can select an an image file from a
list.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5. Select A: as target drive ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Pressing these pushbutton selects A: as the target drive (you will see an arrow
on the right side of the pushbutton !).
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6. Select B: as target drive ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Pressing these pushbutton target B: as the source drive (you will see an arrow
on the right side of the pushbutton !).
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 7. Select an image file as target drive ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

see an arrow on the right side of the pushbutton !).
After pressing the 'read' pushbutton you will be asked for the name of the
image file.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 8. Exit PM Diskcopy or cancel the running process ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This pushbutton has two functions:
1. Exit PM Diskcopy (when no process is running)
2. Cancel reading, writting or comparing of a disk
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 9. About PM Diskcopy ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This pushbutton will show you a short information about PM Diskcopy.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 10. Read ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
When you press this pushbutton, the disk in the choosen source drive will be
read. If the source is an image file, you must select the file from a list.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 11. Write ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
When you press this pushbutton, the disk in the choosen target drive will be
written. If the traget is an image file, you must specify a name for the file.
If the file already exists, you will be asked weather to overwrite or cancel.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 12. Compare ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use this pushbutton to compare the data that has been read to the data on the
disk in the target drive. If the target is an image file, you have to select a
file from a list.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 13. Format target disk ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
If this option is checked, the target disk will be formatted during writting.
If you want to copy disk with different formats, this option must be checked.
This option will be ignored if the target is an image file.
Note: Consider that this option will slow down the writting process, so if
the target disk was already formatted leave this option unchecked.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 14. Verify target disk ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
If this option is checked, the target disk will be verified during writting.
This option will be ignored if the target is an image file.
Note: Consider that this option will slow down the writting process, but it's
the safer way !
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 15. Check disk ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use this pushbutton to check the disk in the source drive for errors (uses OS/2
CHKDSK).
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 16. Format disk ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use this pushbutton to format the disk in the source drive (uses OS/2 FORMAT).
You can select the format of the disk and enter a label before formatting will
be done.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 17. Quick format disk ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This pushbutton allows you to format an already formatted disk very quick ! PM
Diskcopy will only erase the FAT and DIRECTORY of the formatted disk.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 18. Ignore read errors ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Check this option if want to ignore errors during reading of a disk. If this
option is not checked, you will be asked what to do, when an read error
occures. This option will be ignored if the source is an image file.
Note: This option can be changed during the running read process !
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 19. Only used tracks ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
If this option is checked (default), only tracks that contain data (FAT
analyses) will be read, written or compared.
Tracks that contain no data (or only defective sectors) will be ignored (if one
sector of an track is used, so the whole track will be considered a used,
becaues the program works track oriented and not cluster oriented like FAT).
This option can be changed between reading, writting or comparing of a disk. So
if empty tracks were ignored during reading and you do not want to ignore them
during writting, the unused tracks on the target disk will be filled with nulls
(=0xF6).
Note:
o Image files that contain only used tracks are smaller than "normal" image
files.
o If you want to write on an unformatted target disk with the option "format
target disk" you must consider, that tracks that are not used will not be
formatted ! So programs like "DISKCOPY" will report an error on this tracks
(because they are unformatted). In addition you will not be able to add files
on this disk (the free space is unformatted !).
So if you have problem with these kind of things, uncheck this option or
format the complete disk before writting.
o Because only used tracks will be written on the target disk, old data may
still exist on these tracks that were not written and may be still accessable
with an disk editor (PC Tools).
So if you have problem with these kind of things, uncheck this option or
format the complete disk before writting.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 20. Extended help for open / save ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This dialog is used to select an image file, which should be read from or to
select or enter the name of an image file that should be written to.
You can select an file from the listbox or enter the name in the entry field.
When you press the 'Ok' button, the selected file will be read (or written).
By pressing 'Cancel' you can leave this dialog without reading or writting an
image file.
Note: When you select an image file to write to and this file already exists,
you will be asked whether to cancel or overwrite this file.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 21. Non stop mode ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This option makes it possible for you to copy disks in an special 'non stop'
mode.
When this option is checked, you don't have to press the read or write
pushbutton when copying several disks. Now you only have to insert the disks in
the right drive and press ENTER (or press the 'Ok' pushbutton) to read or write
the next disk.
After you selected this option, you have to start the non stop mode by pressing
the read pushbutton (like in normal mode).
This mode is helpfull when you have to copy an set of disks, because it's
easier to use.
Note: This option can be changed at every time !
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 22. Image file ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
